BRAD GETS TO BE A LAZY B***TARD! |

Brad Pitt has been given special dispensation for his next movie to allow him to recover from daddy duty. The Fight Club star is said to be so exhausted from caring for his and Angelina Jolie's six children that he needs time to recover before joining the war effort for Quentin Tarantino's WWII movie Inglorious Bastards. "Brad is a dedicated father and he loves being with the kids but with Angelina back at work it has been super hectic - especially with the twins still so young," explains a source close to Pitt. "Filming starts in Berlin soon but Brad is not expected on the set for the first week. He needs that long to recover from all the diaper changing and sleepless nights." |

Clint Eastwood: 'Dirty Harry Gets a Raw Deal' |

Clint Eastwood believes his classic Dirty Harry character gets a raw deal for being remembered as nothing more than a maniac cop.
The Hollywood legend, 78, says his series of Harry Callaghan movies during the '70s and '80s should be remembered for their groundbreaking political content as well as dramatic shoot-outs.
Clint -- whose latest movie, Changeling, stars Angelina Jolie -- reveals, "Dirty Harry was an adventure story but it also showed a tenacious police officer who wanted to fight against political bureaucracy all for the defense of the victim.
"At that particular time, there weren't too many pictures made that concerned the victims of crime and so that picture drew a lot of attention. Although I have to say, it was great fun and it was a fantasy role: you point a 44 magnum at someone and say, 'Do you feel lucky'."

Most bankable celeb faces |

Angelina Jolie/WireImage.comForbes If America is falling into the recession economists fear it is, Angelina Jolie may prove more important than ever.
To the country's celebrity magazine editors, that is. Shrinking wallets could mean shrinking readership, and nobody moves magazines like Jolie, according to Forbes.com's second annual analysis of the top-selling celebrity faces.
In Pictures: Top-Earning Cover Stars
"The idea of spending $3.99 on a magazine when you don't know what your economic future is is very, very difficult," says Star magazine Editor-in-Chief Candace Trunzo. "It makes it that much more important for us to present a cover that is so appealing that they can't help but buy it."
For the newsstand-dependent celebrity weeklies, compelling covers are absolutely crucial, making editors' choices of cover stars more important than ever. How these magazines fare in the face of economic hardship remains to be seen, since none of them, with the exception of People, were around in their current forms during the last big downturn in the early 1990s.
So expect to see a lot more of Jolie. We analyzed the newsstand sales for the six biggest celebrity weeklies -- People, Star, US Weekly, In Touch Weekly, Life & Style and OK! -- over a year-long period ending June 30, eliminating non-celebrity and "collage" covers as well as special issues with exceptionally large rate bases.

The Most Overexposed Celebrities
We then counted how many more -- or fewer -- issues the celebrity's cover sold as compared to the magazine's average newsstand sales per issue. We also factored in the number of full covers a celebrity individually graced as well as his or her appeal, a measure provided by Los Angeles-based market research firm E-Poll Market Research. Stars were left off the list in rare cases when "likability" data wasn't available.
Jolie earned the top spot, thanks to strong performances in all three categories. Whether it's her humanitarian efforts or her ever-expanding brood, the globe-trotting A-lister has little trouble garnering interest at the checkout line.
Jennifer Aniston also proved highly appealing, this time landing second on our list (she was No. 1 last year). Thanks to her ever-tumultuous love life, the former "Friends" star appeared on eight covers all by herself, and many of them flew off shelves.
Rounding out the top three is Heath Ledger, whose life was cut tragically short earlier this year. In his case, it was his mysterious and all-too-early death that made him front-cover news -- something he hadn't been prior to his passing. Traditionally, male covers sell far fewer copies than female ones with the typically female reader base (both Brad Pitt and Matthew McConaughey failed to make the top 10, though another tragic cover subject, Owen Wilson, did). But the idea of a talent like Ledger dying so young left readers grasping for clues -- and buying magazines in search of them.
Sound frivolous? It may seem so, but it's also big business, with the six weeklies accounting for hundreds of millions of dollars in annual revenue for the magazine industry. Taken together, newsstand sales account for 53% of the 9.4 million copies sold weekly by the sextet. Of them, only People counts on subscriptions for more than half its weekly sales. For two of the titles -- Life & Style Weekly and In Touch -- newsstand accounts for more than 95% of sales, making them particularly vulnerable to bad cover choices.
"You have basically five seconds, maybe less, to grab a reader at the newsstand," says In Touch Editor Michelle Lee. "So they either have to love that star or they have to be fascinated by their story that week."
If it were just about frequency, Britney Spears would have topped our list. In fact, she landed more than 30 covers this year, but proved a bust with readers, ranking dead last in both our likability and cover sales categories.
People Managing Editor Larry Hackett says Spears is a case of editors going to the well too often without much new to say. "The way people are covered these days, even if you were Cleopatra, people would get tired of you," he says. "You just can't be covered 24/7 and remain that interesting."
Still, Spears no longer ranks last in our rankings -- a dubious title she earned last year. Instead, Hollywood's top-earning tween Miley Cyrus loses this time around, scoring poorly in all three categories. While there's no doubt she's powerful and popular, it seems the "Hannah Montana" star's appeal isn't broad enough for the celebrity weekly set.
"Here is a teenager who's quickly becoming a multi-millionaire, if not a billionaire," says Lee. "It's pretty hard to relate to that." |

Guillermo Del Toro To Fly Solo On ‘Hobbit’ Directing Duties, Says No To Peter Jackson Assist |

Peter Jackson won three Oscars for his work on the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy out of seven nominations. He crafted films that pleased fans, critics, and bean counters alike – films that made something like a bajillion dollars worldwide. He’s the trusted modern face of J.R.R. Tolkien’s revered legendarium.
So given that he’s also working on “The Hobbit” as both a producer and a screenwriter, it’s natural to think that he’ll also step behind the camera at some point as well – to film at least one scene that connects the original trilogy with the two new films.
After all, the man’s earned one last drink from the well, right? He most certainly has, Guillermo Del Toro told MTV News, but that still doesn’t mean he’ll be given the opportunity.
“We talked about it. I normally oppose fully the idea of second unit so my first instinct is no, we will not have second unit on this film,” Del Toro said of whether or not Jackson might at some point get behind the camera. “If there is a scheduling conflict or a problem of that sort, we may consider it, but right now the idea is I shoot everything.”
Listening to Del Toro talk about how “magical” his collaboration with Jackson has been so far, I can’t imagine he wouldn’t reconsider if Jackson wanted to do something brief. Still, for now, there are no plans.
What do you think? Should Jackson film a scene or two? Or would that intrude on Del Toro’s singular vision? And if you think he should, is there a particular scene you think would be the most meaningful? Sound off on your thoughts below.

Neil Gaiman Weighs Possible ‘1602,’ ‘Dr. Strange’ Movies |

FROM SPLASH PAGE: Just as “Hulk” director Louis Leterrier is begging the president of Marvel Studios to do a ‘1602′ movie, ‘1602′ writer Neil Gaiman tells us he’s all for it. (For the record, so are we).
“I would love it if somebody made a ‘1602′ movie,” Gaiman said. “I would love to go and see that. That is something I would just love to sit in the audience and eat my popcorn on the first night and feel proud.”
Begging might not even be required to make the Elizabethan-period superhero movie, unless Leterrier is intent to do it as a two-parter — a tougher sell. Still, it’s easier to make “1602″ these days, Gaiman said, than it would have been years ago.Read More…

The Hurt Locker Movie Poster |

“Guess the only Iraq War film to hit it big” is a game show that never ends, and the current front runner is The Hurt Locker from director Kathryn Bigelow. Jeff Wells has a pretty cool leaked one-sheet for the wartime thriller, opening 2009, and he compares the movie—which has been widely praised at festivals like TIFF for its intense action sequences and dutiful hard knock vibe—to James Cameron’s Aliens.
As hinted at by the poster’s dirty bomb and tagline, the plot follows one of the army’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) units as it “plays a dangerous game of cat and mouse in the chaos of war in a city where everyone is a potential enemy.” We’re pretty psyched to see Bigelow make such a lauded comeback—with Point Break and Near Dark highlighting her resume, we’ve been waiting for years. If she goes down in the books for making the first box office hit about the occupation of Iraq on the ground level, even better.

10 Things I Hate About You TV Series? |

Petes1234567 |
Other |
ABC Family has ordered a half-hour television pilot based on the 1999 teen comedy 10 Things I Hate About You, which starred Julie Stiles, Heath Ledger and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Many teenagers don’t realize that the film was actually a modern day tetelling of William Shakespeare’s Taming Of The Shrew (hence the film’s title - 10 Things I hate About You). Gil Junger, who filmed the original 1999 film will also helm the pilot.
The series will focus more on sisters Kate and Bianca Stratford facing their new high school enviorment. Whatever that means. No word on if the series will continue to play off Shakespeare (I doubt it) or if Julie Stiles will have a cameo, or possibly a reoccurring role as a teacher or guidance councilor (not likely)? The whole thing sounds like a really bad idea. 10 Things is one of the few really good high school romantic comedies of the last ten years for a combination of different reasons, none of which will likely translate to the ABC Family television series.

Last month we told you about the Netflix World Movie Watching Championships. The event began on October 2nd at 10:30am, and lasted until a new Guinness World Record, for most consecutive hours spent watching movies, was set five days later on October 7th.
Movie lovers Suresh Joachim and Claudia Wavra emerged as the winners of the Netflix Popcorn Bowl event after 123 hours and 10 minutes of continuous movie watching. Joachim is a Canadian of Sri Lankan descent, who holds 32 Guinness World Records. Mr. Joachim is an endurance champion whose records include television viewing (69 hours, 48 minutes), dancing (100 hours), radio dj-ing (120 hours), and ironing (55 hours, 5 minutes), among other disciplines. Wavra is a former three-time movie marathon record holder who lost the title to Ashish Sharma in June. The other competitors included:
Ashish Sharma, the last world record holder.
Cheryl Jones of Portland, Ore. who was a part of the team of Netflix members who broke the Guinness World Record for continuous movie watching in 2003.
Dallas movie buff Jeff Jones who won $250,000 on the movie edition of the popular game show series “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” in 2007.
The event was held in a plexi-glass living room in the center New York City’s Times Square. The participants began the event with Iron Man, and concluded with Thelma & Louise, which was dropped off by actress Susan Sarandon. In total, they watched 57 films which included Caddyshack, The Bourne Identity and Kill Bill.
According to the contest’s rules, “each movie had to be viewed until the last credit rolled. The participants were closely monitored by judges and medical professionals who checked their vital signs on a regular basis to ensure they could safely endure the challenge. Under Guinness World Record rules, competitors could not divert their eyes from the screen, but were allowed 10-minute breaks between movies

New Twilight Movie Trailer |

The final trailer for Twilight has leaked onto YouTube. I’ve pretty much given up all hope on this film, but I’m sure there are a few teenage girl readers who might be interested. As always, tell me what you think in the comments below!
Official Plot Synopsis: TWILIGHT is an action-packed, modern day love story between a vampire and a human. Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) has always been a little bit different, never caring about fitting in with the trendy girls at her Phoenix high school. When her mother remarries and sends Bella to live with her father in the rainy little town of Forks, Washington, she doesn’t expect much of anything to change. Then she meets the mysterious and dazzlingly beautiful Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a boy unlike any she’s ever met. Intelligent and witty, he sees straight into her soul. Soon, Bella and Edward are swept up in a passionate and decidedly unorthodox romance. Edward can run faster than a mountain lion, he can stop a moving car with his bare hands – and he hasn’t aged since 1918. Like all vampires, he’s immortal. But he doesn’t have fangs, and he doesn’t drink human blood; Edward and his family are unique among vampires in their lifestyle choice. To Edward, Bella is that thing he has waited 90 years for – a soul mate. But the closer they get, the more Edward must struggle to resist the primal pull of her scent, which could send him into an uncontrollable frenzy. But what will Edward & Bella do when James (Cam Gigandet), Laurent (Edi Gathegi) and Victoria (Rachelle Lefevre), the Cullens’ mortal vampire enemies, come to town, looking for her?
ABOUT TWILIGHT: Based on the current #1 New York Times Bestselling series (30 weeks and counting) with over 7.5 million books in print by Stephenie Meyer, TWILIGHT is a cultural phenomenon, with a dedicated fanbase that eagerly awaits this movie. There are over 100 fan sites devoted to Twilight, and it has been chosen as the New York Times Editor’s Choice, a Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year, Amazon’s “Best Book of the Decade…So Far”, Teen People’s “Hot List” Pick, The American Library Association’s “Top Ten Best Book for Young Adults” and “Top Ten Books for Reluctant Readers” and has been translated into 20 languages. Critically acclaimed director Catherine Hardwicke brings to life this modern, visual, and visceral Romeo & Juliet story of the ultimate forbidden love affair – between vampire and mortal.
Twilight hits theaters on November 21st 2008.

JOHNNY DEPP - DEPP SCOOPS BIGGEST EVER UP-FRONT PAYOUT FOR PIRATES 4 |

Hollywood star JOHNNY DEPP will reportedly pocket a staggering $59.2 million (GBP32 million) pay cheque for reprising his role as CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW in a fourth installment of the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN franchise.
The big-money deal will make Hollywood history as the highest up-front payment ever - overshadowing the $53.65 million (GBP29 million) Tom Hanks was offered to star in the forthcoming The Da Vinci Code sequel, Angels + Demons.
But a movie insider insists Disney Studio bosses - who are behind the hugely successful franchise - would pay anything to keep Depp on their books.
The source tells Britain's Daily Mail newspaper, "There's only one Johnny Depp. They simply cannot make another Pirates movie without Jack Sparrow.
"The first three films have earned $2.7 billion (GBP1.46 billion) at the box office. It's no surprise that Disney executives want Jack back and they are willing to pay big bucks to get him."
However, it is unlikely Depp's co-stars Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley will return to star in another sequel.
Knightley, who played Elizabeth Swann in the adventure trilogy recently said: "I think it was wonderful and an amazing opportunity and those films were just extraordinary and I was extremely lucky to be a part of them. But no. I think my pirating days may be over."

The poster is completely framed by guns, which will actually be physically distinct from the poster itself, lending even more 3D effect to the whole thing. Completely Unnecessary Bull Durham Sequel Coming |

When Kevin Costner says he thinks a movie doesn't need to be made, you have to listen to the guy. I mean, he thought Waterworld and The Postman were necessary works of art--- can't we trust him when even he's willing to show restraint? But apparently Costner's contention that Bull Durham doesn't need a sequel is no match for some producers, who are hard at work getting Bull Durham 2 ready to shoot next summer.
Moviehole picked up on a story in the The Durham Herald-Sun, the hometown paper of a city clearly glad to have movie crews returning. Because the script is still in the works, apparently none of the original cast have been contacted, including Costner, Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon.
I don't think I need to tell you my exact feelings on a sequel to a 20-year-old movie that seems to have done OK standing on its own over the decades. Good for the people of Durham for getting some film industry money, but do the rest of us really have to be faced with yet another unnecessary sequel? |

The reported synopsis had Riggs (Gibson’s chracacter) who’s just about to retire, bringing Murtaugh (Glover’s character) out of retirement to solve one final case. This sounds like it would be the final sendoff the characters and it would allow the franchise to end with some closure.
weeks ago, we reported that Black had been asked by producer Joel Silver to helm the project - taking over from Richard Donner who had directed all four previous films in the series. In that article, Niall said we can expect to see our favorite aging crime-fighting duo to be aided by a pair of young cops.

HALLOWEEN comes but once a year, and sightings of MICHAEL JACKSON and his children are even rarer — and scarier.
Wacko Jacko and his three kids showed their faces — fleetingly — on a visit to a Los Angeles comic store.
And to view the adventures of masked superheroes they covered their own faces, only removing their disguises after entering the shop through the back door.
Jacko, 50, kept on his mask and dark glasses under a hoodie throughout the trip.
His son Prince Michael, 11, in cream shorts, white trainers and black hooded jacket, looked almost like a normal wide-eyed kid after removing his mask.
His sister Paris, 10, in red shirt and black trousers, showed her face to browse through the comics.
Six-year-old Prince Michael II, right, revealed his dad’s long, straight hairstyle — but without shades.
But nothing in the comics, surely, was stranger than life with the Jacko family.

First Reviews of 'W.' Trickle In |

Oliver Stone's W. has screened for the more important among us, and I am pleasantly surprised to report that people are not openly laughing at it. Some seem downright impressed. Here, for example is David Poland on The Hot Blog:
"[Josh] Brolin should be nominated for the Oscar. We'll see whether the crowd around Best Actor is too big for him to crack, but it is a letter perfect performance that looks much, much easier than most critics and audiences, I think, will understand . . . . The only downside is that the movie doesn't offer the massive supporting cast a lot of big awards-style moments. They are just really, really good. And that really should be enough."
Variety's Todd McCarthy is a bit more mixed than Poland, but concedes that W. "offers a clear and plausible take on the current chief executive's psychological makeup and, considering Stone's reputation and Bush's vast unpopularity, a relatively even-handed, restrained treatment of recent politics." And Kirk Honeycutt over at The Hollywood Reporter says that though the film is more bold than it is good, "Stone goes out of his way to give Bush a fair hearing."
Over the summer, I guffawed at the notion that Stone was going to be fair and sympathetic to Bush in W., but it looks like I may be eating those words before too long. Apparently the problem people are having with the film isn't its politics but its lack of formal audacity, which is the opposite what I expected to hear. But it's certainly good to learn that Stone at least attempts a serious treatment of the subject -- those script pages that Slate "leaked" a while back could have fooled me.

Cinematical has just received this exclusive poster for A Christmas Tale, directed by Arnaud Desplechin. The emotional French drama centers on a family who, throughout the years, struggle to come to terms with a personal tragedy that changed their lives forever. Reviewing the film from this year's Cannes Film Festival, Kim called it a "tragically comic tale of love, death, and familial strife and forgiveness."
Starring Mathieu Amalric, Catherine Deneuve, Anne Consigny and Jean-Paul Rossillon, this French flick has received nothing but good buzz since debuting a few months back. Toward the end of her review, Kim adds "I hope the film will secure distribution in the United States as well, so that American audiences might also get to appreciate its humor, beauty and depth."
Well, good news is IFC picked up A Christmas Tale and it will arrive in select theaters and On Demand on November 14, before expanding to other cities. Check it out.

ZAC EFRON is used to fans launching themselves at him – but not in the form of enraged middle-aged men hell bent on causing him harm.
The pin-up actor – in London to promote new movie High School Musical 3 – was confronted by the deranged pedestrian as he left a theatre with his on and offscreen lover VANESSA HUDGENS.
The couple had just watched fellow Hollywood heart-throb JOSH HARTNETT perform onstage in Rain Man when the attacker lunged at unsuspecting Zac’s head and attempted to pull his hair.
Security guards leapt to Zac’s defence as he and Vanessa hastily headed for a waiting car with the laptop-carrying madman in hot pursuit, screaming abuse.
The star was unhurt but visibly shaken by the incident.
Though the attacker received a stern dressing down from security officials, he will not be facing police action.
Still, Zac, 20, wasn’t prepared to let the aggressive encounter ruin the rest of his night.
He was later spotted dining out at Soho’s Floridita restaurant with his High School Musical castmates.

Bruce shows off Bellamy look |

Looks like BRUCE WILLIS has been taking grooming tips from DAVID BELLAMY.
The Die Hard star looked more vagabond than Hollywood hero as he sported a grey beard and beanie hat on a shopping trip in New York.
Willis carried the credit card as daughter TALLULAH and girlfriend EMMA HEMING perused the wares of top store Barneys.
Perhaps the new look is an attempt to look serious, before stepping behind the camera as director for his next film, Three Stories About Joan.
Or maybe he’s planning a movie about Captain Birdseye!

Bill Murray's 'worst' divorce |

Bill Murray says his wife filing for divorce was the "worst thing" to ever happen to him.
The 'Ghostbusters' star was left "broken" in May when Jennifer Butler Murray - his wife of almost 11 years - asked to end their marriage claiming the actor abused her and was addicted to alcohol and marijuana.
He admitted: "That was devastating. That was the worst thing that ever happened to me in my entire life.
"I was just dead, just broken. When you're really in love with someone and this happens - I never had anything like this happen. It's like your faith in people is destroyed because the person you trusted the most you can no longer trust at all. The person you know isn't there anymore."
The 58-year-old 'Lost in Translation' star - whose four children now live with Jennifer following a court order - is slowly learning to get on with his life.
He added to America's OK! magazine: "I've had a great deal of success in life - not just money or fame or anything like that - I just feel like I've done well in many areas of life.
"I've learned how to live and I think I've learned things about living. It's almost like, 'OK, you learned that much, now let's try this. Let's see how you can do if this happens to you.'"

As Gunn describes it: "How many times have you been watching a great porn film – you're really enjoying the story, the acting, the cinematography – when, all of the sudden, they ruin everything with PEOPLE HAVING SEX?"
In the very first episode, actor Nathan Fillion (Slither, Serenity) stars as a construction worker who is seduced by his boss' wife (Aria Giovanni). You can probably imagine what happens from there. But if you can't, watch the video below. And stay tuned for new episodes as they come in. |

Gerard Butler is being investigated by police in Los Angeles over an alleged incident with a photographer.
TMZ reports that the 300 actor ordered his driver to stop when he discovered that his limousine was being followed by a paparazzo.
He then allegedly approached the photographer and asked him to leave. When he refused, Butler reportedly grabbed him by the throat and punched him.
Los Angeles Police Department officials have confirmed that they are investigating the case and will interview the star.
Butler recently opened up about his past, revealing that he drank too much and had a "suicide wish".
He said: "I once woke up in Paris at 4am, five miles from where I'd been at a party. I had gashes to my head, my face, my arms, and I had blood all over my clothes. To this day, I don't know what happened."

"Eric is the sheriff of Louisiana, Skarsgard told eonline.com of his character on True Blood. “That means he's the oldest vampire there, and he's the boss of all the vampires, including Bill [Stephen Moyer]. Eric's also a businessman—he runs a club in Shreveport called Fangtasia, and he makes a lot of money by inviting tourists to his club. They get to drink and watch live vampires, and he gets to take their money."
"I think when Eric meets Sookie, there is something about her that catches his attention—there's something different about her. He can sense it, but he doesn't know what it is. He wants her to come back and then when he finds out she's telepathic, he realizes that's something he can use to his advantage because she's with Bill and he's Bill's boss, so he can basically tell Bill, bring her over."

Spears could face trial in licence case |

Britney Spears could face trial after her attorney rejected a plea offer over her misdemeanor driver's licence case.
The offer would have seen the singer placed on a year's probation and fined $150 (£87) for allegedly driving without a valid licence, reports The Associated Press.
However, the 26-year-old's legal representative J. Michael Flanagan wants a lesser fine and a reduction to the charge.
Should the case go to trial, the attorney said he will appeal any conviction, claiming that Spears is being unfairly targeted because of her status.
The charge relates to an incident in August 2007 when it is claimed Spears bumped another vehicle and left without leaving a note.
The star was charged with misdemeanor hit-and-run and driving without a valid licence. The hit-and-run charges were later dropped after Spears paid an undisclosed sum to the car's owner.

Kevin Bacon starred in the original 1984 musical, which also featured Sarah Jessica Parker.
"It looks like there's a real good chance that this may be a movie that we're going to do next year," Ortega added.
