On the verge of being kicked out of the Navy for repeated fighting, he is sent to a naval psychiatrist for help. Refusing at first to open up, the young man eventually breaks down and reveals a horrific childhood rife with abuse. With the help of a Navy psychiatrist, he turns his life around and decides to embark on a search to find the family that abandoned him as a baby. Through the guidance of his doctor, he confronts his painful past and begins a quest to find the family he never knew. In the course of that search, his life changes dramatically.

    Washington never fails to deliver but Luke was hot and cold. The story just seemed very typical. Final scene was good though.

    This is a gripping film that really tugged at my heart strings an rocked me to the core. Very memorable and excellent performances all round. This is a film that that can change a person's life.

    What a directorial debut and an excellent showing for the next great African-American actor Derek Luke. he should have gotten the Oscar for this.

    Derek Luke was great in this movie. I have been watching many movies with him in it since this movie. Some one to watch

    An excellent psychological drama with great performances by Denzel Washington and the debuting Derek Luke, and great directing by Washington as well. This is a well written, gritty yet uplifting story about dealing with and overcoming one's past. Highly recommended.
